Introduction Cartoon: Superhero

What's New?

    August 2009: added superheroes 2-12

Introduction

All drawings on this page are my freehand drawings. I did not start drawing until I was 39 years old. At that age, I picked up some 'how-to' books and began goofing around. For the next two years I drew on again and off again but produced little. My mind was on my writing, at the time.

My first cartoon drawings came about while spending time at Disneyworld, when I was 40. I saw a book on how to draw the Disney characters and decided that I'd try to do it for my daughter, who was 4 years old at the time. I really loved doing the characters. It was meditative.

After the Disney drawings I put my art aside, for over 4 years, to write. During that time my wife and I had a son. As he got bigger I became interested in drawing again; namely to produce things that made him happy and my now 10 year old daughter. Since early 2006, I began producing work slowly. However,  it was more a learning process about what tools to use and making sure I enjoyed the process rather than loathed it.

In late 2006 and early 2007, I produced a lot of work. Mainly in cartoon form. That seems to please my children the most. You'll notice several themes of characters. Those characters are either popular in book form or are on TV. Some, like Little Critter, by Mercer Mayer, are very difficult to draw, for me. Other's are very easy for me to draw, like Sandra Boynton's work.

This page showcases my drawing. It is organized for easy navigation. I hope you enjoy it.

Thanks,

Jim.
